Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): The Indian Horticulture Society (IHS) has conferred the “Best oral presentation” award to Dr. Avinash Chauhan, SASRD scientist from the department of Entomology, for his presentation entitled “Impact of stingless bees on watermelon.”
A press release from SASRD stated that the book was authored by Dr. Avinash Chauhan, Dr. HK Singh and Otto S Awomi. Among the 46 national-level oral presentations, Avinash was awarded the prize for his outstanding presentation during the three-day Indian Horticulture Summit organised from February 14 to the 16th at Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramadhya Vishwavidyalaya, Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh.
It stated that Dr. Avinash raised the importance of stingless bees and their role in the pollination of crops in Nagaland. He emphasised that stingless bees have added advantages like small body size, non possession of stings, lesser communication between workers, short flight range and fidelity which made them suitable pollinators of crops under protected condition.
The research was expected to help farmers in increasing the yield and quality of their crops.
Meanwhile, the university officials have congratulated Dr. Avinash for his stellar achievement and bringing laurels to the university while helping the farmers and beekeepers of Nagaland and the world as a whole.
