Noke inaugurates Konyak community centre

Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): The much awaited Konyak Community Centre, Dimapur, was inaugurated by Noke Wangnao, advisor of Social Welfare, Home Guards and Civil Defence, in the presence of Konyak legislators and dignitaries at East Dimapur, Purana Bazaar, on February 22.

Speaking on the occasion, Wangnao expressed delight that the centre would facilitate the Konyak community in numerous ways. He advised the community leaders to judiciously utilisation the funds in order to pave way for smooth and fast development of the centre.

Briefing on the concept of the project, W Honje Konyak, stated that the project was initiated with an aim to facilitate the community. According to him, the idea of the project began in 2015 in order to address the need of growing population. This was stated in a press release issued by K Yamao Konyak, convenor of the construction committee.

Konyak stated that the community centre would become a place for any occasion ranging from informal meetings and social gatherings.

Also speaking on the occasion, president of Konyak Union S Howing challenged every right thinking individual to be responsible and strive for the development and progress of the society.

During the discussion hour, Yamao, convenor of the construction committee, thanked every individual and group for their contribution towards purchasing the said land. He reminded that the community centre would be developed to facilitate underprivileged students and economically disadvantaged people.

Meanwhile, the committee has appreciated the residents of East Dimapur, Purana Bazaar, under the leadership of its chairman Hokhuvi Aye and GB Lukheyi for their cooperation.

EE Pangteang, MLA; YM Yollow, MLA; MC Konyak, former minister; LT Konyak, retired deputy commissioner; and Hokhuvi Aye spoke on the occasion.

More than one thousand members including former MPs, former ministers/ MLAs, NGOs and church leaders from Mon, Kohima and Dimapur districts attended the programme.
