Imphal, July 4 (EMN): Manipur’s Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister V Hangkhanlian has said there is sufficient buffer stock of fertilizers for farmers of the state even as he urged them not to panick although there is shortage of rainfall.
This was stated during a press conference that was held on Wednesday in his official chamber at the old Secretariat in Imphal.
The minister stated that the Agriculture department had finalised buying 100 pump sets to supply water to paddy fields. There is shortage of water for seed sowing due to scanty rainfall, he said but assured that the Agriculture department had prepared government land for the relief of farmers.
Through some ministers and members of the legislative assembly around 1000 bags of fertilizers have been given to farmers, the updates stated.
Further, the department took a decision to give fertilizers to farmers who produced farm ‘patta’ and Aadhaar cards according to their field areas.
Further, the department is trying to procure additional 58 thousand bags which are on the way. Therefore, there will not be inadequate fertilizers for farmers in the state, it was informed.
Further, preparations are being made to prevent the fertilizers from going into the wrong hands, and it is constantly looked into whether the right beneficiaries are receiving the fertilizers, he said.
The minister has appealed to the farmers of the state to not panic. The department has taken steps to solve the problem and to provide sufficient seedlings and other requirements for the farmers, he added.
