Dimapur, June 4: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has directed its members to keep their businesses open, despite the call for bandh by student groups.

A press release from the DCCI on Tuesday stated that while it sympathises with the students and their leaders arrested “for fighting against corruption”, it was nevertheless “totally taken aback” by the call for bandh on business activities “when the fight is with the government and not with the business community.”

“…while the arrest of student leaders was made in Kohima, imposing bandh in Dimapur is totally illogical and therefore the Dimapur business community will like to appeal those student bodies imposing this bandh to use their wisdom and exercise restraint. It further makes clear to the student leaders that they will be held responsible if any unwarranted situation arises while opening the shops,” it stated.

The traders’ community asserted that it would not allow bandh without prior notice and intimation.

“DCCI directs all business establishment to open the shops. Any business establishment not following the pressure will be dealt appropriately. It informs the district administration and Dimapur police that the business community will carry its activities as usual and therefore make adequate security arrangement,” read the statement.
