75th anniversary of WWII Kohima Battle to be commemorated

Dimapur, March 31 (EMN):
The 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kohima will be commemorated with celebrations throughout the year starting April 4, the day the battle started in 1944.

The IPR informed that the celebrations will begin with an inaugural event on April 4 followed by events including scholarship awards, capacity-building training events, marathon, literary and film festivals; vintage car rallies; World War II-themed trail walks; cross cultural events; tattoo, music and food festivals; an air show and light and sound events etc., spread throughout the year.

A meeting of the programme’s organizing committee comprising members from the state government, military and nongovernmental organisations was held on March 30 presided over by Chief Secretary Temjen Toy, in the chief secretary’s conference hall.

After detailed discussions, the committee finalised the programme for the main inaugural event. The event will be held at the RCEMPA at Jotsoma. Delegates from Japan led by its ambassador to India; representatives from the United Kingdom, United States Army; and family members of veterans, and veterans of WW II will be attending, the updates stated.
