DIMAPUR — The 37th Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) convocation programme was held at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on Tuesday, with Director of Higher Education Dr. A Nshoga as the guest of honour.
Addressing the attendees, Nshoga extended congratulations to all the successful learners of IGNOU’s Regional Centre in Kohima, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in achieving academic milestones, a DIPR report stated.
He said the graduating learners are the torchbearers of tomorrow and encouraged them to utilise the knowledge and skills they have acquired for the greater good.
He highlighted IGNOU‘s monumental role in catering to the educational needs of over 3.0 million learners across India and abroad. The director also commended IGNOU’s efforts in extending higher education learning to marginalised and socio-economically disadvantaged groups, differently-abled persons, and even inmates in correctional facilities nationwide.
He went on to praise IGNOU’s contributions to various sectors including teaching, research, training, community development, extension activities and professional development.
Further, Nshoga noted IGNOU’s adoption of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) well before the announcement of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
He highlighted the flexibility provided to learners in choosing their courses and completing them at their own pace, even after intervals. He commended IGNOU’s curriculum for its skill-based orientation and conducive learning environment.
Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, Regional Director and incharge of IGNOU Kohima, welcomed the attendees and provided insights into the achievements of the Kohima Regional Centre.
He mentioned that out of the 989 eligible students from the Kohima Regional Centre, 723 master’s degrees, 122 bachelor’s degrees, 88 diplomas and 47 certificates were conferred degrees and certificates during the convocation.
Shimray also highlighted the growth of IGNOU’s Kohima Regional Centre from 32 learners in 2001 to over ten thousand learners at present. The event featured experiences shared by learners Ongnetchanger Longkumer, Hekhuli, and Shilpa Bhowmick, Assistant Registrar of IGNOU Kohima campus, Kh. Sushil Kumar, delivered the vote of thanks.
