23rd Zeliang Wrestling held

Nlumrai Hegwang emerged the champion at the 23rd Zeliang Wrestling Tournament held on February 23 last. Altogether sixty wrestlers participated in the Naga style.
In free style, Asoyibe was declared the winner below 50 kg category, Nampotei won the 51-55 kg category, Rakuding the winner in 56-60 kg category and Ibalungbe was declared the winner in 61-73 kg category.
Shri Peter Lichamo, Deputy Commissioner Peren, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Earlier, Shri. I. Daniel Hemang, President ZWA, in his presidential address called for a renewed vigour in traditional Naga Wrestling.
The chief guest in his speech implored the players to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship.
He expressed satisfaction over growing popularity of Naga Wrestling and emphatically noted that Nagas are endowed with sports talent which needs to be developed. He expressed hope that number of participants would rise in subsequent meets.

Administration of oath was taken by Shri Hekuirielu Kamlak and the programme was chaired by Shri I Simon Teilia, vice president ZWA.
