Intensifying their hunt for people involved in the March 5 lynching incident, police have apprehended two more persons on Saturday taking the number of total arrest to 52. One of the persons arrested today is a juvenile, said Shouka Kakheto, Additional SP, Dimapur.
Most of the people identified by the police for their involvement in the March 5 incident are absconding, said Kakheto. Efforts are being made to take them into custody and the investigating team is also seeking the assistance of other district police, he added.
The police, however, said that they, for the time being, cannot determine under which crime the arrested persons will be charge with. Since it involves a series of events, the degree of involvement of the arrested persons is being investigated by the special investigation team (SIT), he said. The police are also analyzing the photographs and videos of the incident and will be taking girls students into custody who are involved.
Additional SP Shouka Kakheto also said that the bullet head extracted from the body of Inuto Chishi, who died of bullet injury during March 5 firing at Clock Tower junction, is in their custody and that they will be examining it.
The police have, till now, ruled out involvement of underground groups in the incident. However, police are investigating on reports that some people in the mob being armed and that police were being fired upon. It may be mentioned here that police have issued a ‘look out notice’ for 24 persons along with their photographs, who they alleged were “directly involved” in lynching of rape-accused by a mob on March 5. Police are expected to publish more photographs in subsequent days on the basis of available evidence against each person.
