17th LSU Martyrs’ trophy begins

The 17th edition of the Lotha Students’ Union Martyrs trophy got underway on Thursday April 14, 2016 at local ground Wokha, with Director for Land Resources, Government of Nagaland, Mhathung Yanthan as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural function, the chief guest reminded the students’ community that student’s life is very short and one should make best use of every hour and learn as much as you can. He also encouraged them to target goal, be more focused, and sincere to become good leader and responsible citizen.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, A. Robin Lotha who also spoke on the occasion, urged the players and students not just to play the game but to have one mind one sentiment because through this game we are paying tribute to the departed souls who made supreme sacrifices for the welfare of the students’ community. He also lauded the LSU for remembering the departed soul in the form of sports and wished them success to achieve their aspiration.
Short speech was delivered by President, Wokha District Football Association, Edward Ngullie and Father of Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung.KSU President, Amos Odyuo, highlighting the significance of organizing the trophy said this tournament Is being organized annually in memory of Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung and Lt. Chumdamo Tungoe who were killed on 14th April 1977 while the then Lotha Students’ Union organized a protest rally to show their resentment against the inhuman act of the Assam Police in manhandling the then SDO (C) Ralan, the President added, since then KSU has been organizing the tourney in memory of the two martyrs. All together 12 teams are competing for the trophy.
