In a run-up to its 17th raising day scheduled on August 2, the 173 battalion CRPF, in collaboration with NSS cell, undertook a mass tree plantation drive at the battalion camping site (BCS) in Chümoukedima on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the 173 CRPF commandant, Vishnu Gautam, informed that its personnel have planted around 3000 saplings during the last couple of months at various locations. Gautam has also emphasised on the importance of planting tree saplings in order to combat the effect of global climatic change.

He also informed that the 173 battalion of CRPF camp located at Airfield Dimapur would be vacated and shifted to the new BCS CRPF Chümoukedima in the future. He stated that the new campus would house more than 500 families.

The commandant stated that the residents would be benefited with the establishment of a CRPF camp.
Also speaking at the event, the state national service scheme (NSS) officer, Zeneikhoo Pfükha, stated that they have received tree saplings from the district forest officer.

It may be mentioned here that students from 13 colleges in Dimapur have participated in the plantation drive. The plantation was organised as part of the government of India’s initiative for a ‘Green India.’
