Zunheboto students debate on governance, RIIN

Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): A district-level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competition was conducted at the government higher secondary school of Zunheboto on September 21 with students from both government and private institutions participating in the event.
A press release that was received here gave details about the programme. K Caroline Sema, the district coordinator and vice principal of the school exhorted the gathering.

‘This parliament is a platform to make the students understand the parliamentary procedure, to develop in them an insight into the working of parliament and to make the students aware of various problems facing in our society and also help to inculcate leadership quality,’ Sema said. She that the parliament was a tool for students to exercise their rights to express their opinions and to ‘improve their situations both in school and outside through various projects.’

‘This parliament is a platform which gives students the necessary exposure to treat politics as a career option,’ she said, according to the press release.

The daylong programme saw debate among the students on the topics of ‘lack of governance is responsible for slow growth and development in Nagaland,’ and ‘Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland’ and whether it was a positive or negative concept.

In the debate competition, Avilo R Yeptho, a cl-XII student of Olympic higher secondary school (Affirmative) got the first position while Kainoli G Zhimo, a cL-XII student of Olympic higher secondary school (Negative) was declared the second position winner.

Tokito Yepthomi of Woodlandhigher secondary school, Alina T Muru of the government higher secondary school and Nilokali A Swu of Olympic higher secondary school were declared the winners in the quiz competition. The winners were given certificates along with a cash award, the updates stated.

The winners of the competition will participate in the forthcoming state-level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competition which will be held in the second week of October this year, the press release stated.

In the debate competition, a teacher Watienla, was the moderator while another teacher Kezevinuo Rupreo, was the quizmaster, the updates stated.
