Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Nagaland and Kuki Students’ Union Organisation, Nagaland organise a public rally in Peren town on June 23.

Dimapur, June 23 (EMN): Aggrieved over the state government’s vindication of the June 3 incident conveyed through the deputy commissioner of Peren on June 18, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZSUN), and Kuki Students’ Union Organisation, Nagaland along with other civil society organisation organised a public rally at Peren town on June 23.

This was informed by ZSUN through an update on Tuesday. It informed that it stands by its ultimatum submitted to the chief minister, who is the chairman of high power committee, on June 10 and “reiterated to continue to intensify the agitation and resort to more stringent measures in the coming days until our charter of demand is fulfilled at the earliest”.

“Failure to comply with this ultimatum will invite consequence of extreme degree and for which the state government will be held solely responsible. When the state has started witnessing rapid increase almost every single day, the state government has shifted the burden to the general public,” the press release read.

The union has reaffirmed its ultimatum, demanding the state government to “establish a 100-bedded Covid hospital in the district with modern facilities, to immediately provide adequate tools and machineries, to set up makeshift ICU and BSL-2 lab in the district hospital, to post adequate staffing to man the hospital and to initiate prompt action against the erring officials”.

While stating that the number of positive patients in the district is increasing while the Covid-19 hospital has “little facilities”, it said the government is giving ‘step-motherly treatment’ towards its demand. The union has also announced that rallies will be held in four town of the district: Paren – June 23, Jalukie – June 24, Ngwalwa – June 25, and Tening – June 26.
