Zeliang People Organization (ZPO) has sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, Peren, into the incident on April 2 wherein villagers of Lilen numbering about hundred had physically assaulted, verbally abused and manhandled the government officials on duty led by DB Athibung.
It was reported that some, who were gravely injured, are being treated in the district hospital, while some have been referred outside the district for further treatment. Besides uttering many abusive and illogical words, ZPO statement said Lilen villagers blatantly claimed ownership of the land. ZPO, in a statement issued by its president and the general secretary, said such actions were too provocative, treacherous and dangerous for peaceful coexistence.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, ZPO (N) has sought immediate befitting punitive punishment with imprisonment to each and every guilty culprit involved in the crime. It has also urged the State government to stop all the Governmental funds and developmental aids to Lilen village without delay so that the guilty villagers might realize the gravity of their treacherous deeds towards the Zeliang people who are their benefactors and proprietor of the land (Peren Village) they are occupying.
ZPO has also appealed the administration to take immediate action upon the erring village in tune with the customary practices of the Zeliang people as enshrined in the Article 371 (A). Besides, it demanded that Lilen villagers to pay rampwa to the land owner (Peren village) without further delay within the stipulated time.
ZPO urged the concerned authorities to execute its demand within fifteen days from the date of receipt of this memorandum, failing which, ZPO warned to initiate its own means of recourse for justice.
