DIMAPUR — The Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU), Nagaland, has reminded the voters in Nagaland, especially the citizens of Peren district, on the importance of indigenous representation to the municipalities and town councils.
In a press release, the ZLSU stated that it firmly believes that the people of Nagaland will not let their inherent rights, originality and voices be subjugated in exchange for some monetary benefits.
The union also denounced any form of “dirty politics and policies” in the ensuing ULB elections.
“Considering the demographic location of Nagaland state, let us be on our guards to uphold and protect the rights, the aspirations and ethical values of indigenous inhabitants of our state.
“The identity and the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas can be preserved and upheld only when we elect indigenous ‘Nagas by Blood’ to the municipalities and town councils,” the union asserted.
Extending support to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) call for ‘Nagas by blood, not by adoption,’ the union also affirmed its support for exclusion of Naga women married to non-locals and their offsprings from contesting in the ULB elections.
