Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) celebrated its 61st anniversary-cum-foundation day on May 27 at Peren town hall with the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Peren, Keyirangding Hegui, as the guest speaker.
Speaking on the occasion, Hegui has emphasised on preserving the cultural identity and urged the student community to focus more on improving the quality of education, an update from the union stated.
He also encouraged the students to strive for excellence in their academics and pursue profession in doctors and engineers, which are still lacking among the community as compared to other tribes. He further encouraged the students and youth to maintain good health.
President of Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO), Kevipele Iheilung, and the deputy commandant of 9th IR Saijang, Rezulule Ndang, also delivered short speeches on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the union general secretary, Sanlakbo Namdaw, has expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries and the youth of Peren town for their contributions towards making the event a success.
The invocation was said by Amos Ngamta, pastor of Liangmai Baptist Church Phumlin, and the benediction was said by Haiku Nza, pastor of Peren Town Baptist Church.
