Former CM insists he vacated official residence on July 22
Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): In response to an Eastern Mirror July 23 edition report, the former chief minister, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu has clarified that the event organised at his private residence on Saturday evening was not a political campaign but a ‘thanksgiving’ event to mark his leaving of the chief minister’s official residence, and return home.
In the report, it was suggested that the former chief minister had decided to skip a ‘common platform meeting’ – organised by the Bayavü Area Panchayat as part of is clean elections program – to conduct his own campaign. This, according to the former chief minister’s press secretary, was not true.
Interestingly, the present chief minister’s office also issued a letter on Sunday that appeared to contradict this assertion from the former chief minister. The letter was addressed to Liezietsu, requesting him to vacate the official residence of the chief minister with immediate effect.
The letter reminded him that TR Zeliang was sworn-in as the new chief minister of Nagaland on July 19 last. “The incumbent chief minister is required to perform day to day function from the official residence of the chief minister with proper security and adequate residential office facilities for the convenience of the elected members and the general public”, the letter read. Strangely, the letter was dated July 24, 2017.
When contacted, sources from the former chief minister’s office claimed that Liezietsu had already vacated the official residence on July 22 last.
