Stressing on the need to develop professionalism, MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo insisted that education and sports should be pursued simultaneously.

Stressing on the need to develop professionalism, MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo insisted that education and sports should be pursued simultaneously.

He stated this at the golden jubilee celebration of the Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organisation (TYSWO) in Thenyizumi village under Phek district as chief guest on Tuesday. He extolled Thenyizumi village for producing eminent politicians and educationists such as N Theyo and Punuhu Dawhuo besides sportspersons including state wrestling coach Chisazo Dawhuo, state archery coach Hunezo Thisa and the present wrestling star Venuzo Dawhuo among others. Towards this, he challenged the younger generations to work harder and excel higher in life.

Sazo commended that the golden jubilee celebration was worthy for the celebration of the glorious past and further told the youth to retrospect and introspect to progress further be it in education, sports and economy.

He also pointed out the need for the youth to put in more efforts in the changing scenario and cut throat competition in competitive examinations and public services. Besides, he also stressed on the need to venture into entrepreneurship and be self reliant.

Sazo also pointed out that the people of Thenyizumi are gifted with the Sedzu river flowing through, which is considered as the lifeline of the people. In this regard, he urged the people to take up farming and agricultural entrepreneurship as the area has huge potential. Also informed that Northeast India is among the 25 hotspot biodiversity in the world, he told the people to preserve the heritage and also conserve the flora and fauna.

He further exuded confidence that the various ongoing road constructions in the state including Phek district would bring about economy and infrastructure development.

To mark the occasion, Sazo released a souvenir and also unveiled the golden jubilee monolith. The monolith was donated by the children of N Theyo, former minister of Nagaland.

The first youth president, Vekhwutso Resu, lit the tournament torch commemorating the 50 glorious years.

Greetings were also shared by the president of Phek District Sports’ Association (PDSA), Nezosa Tetseo, and the village council chairman (VCC) of Thenyizu, Medothi Rhakho, and the presidential address was delivered by Veseta Swuro.

Day- one update

Naga wrestling marked the celebration of the golden jubilee on day-one.

In the senior category, Vephuto Vero emerged as the champion and won the Lt. Chorhitso Thisa Trophy defeating Venekho Dawhuo in the final bout of the wrestling event.  Razouvoto Poru and Nuvezo secured the 3rd and 4th position respectively.

In the junior category, Huvoto Nakro secured the first position and won the Lt. Sakhahi Yomi Trophy, followed with Chosezo Nakro in the second position. Zhoveto Nakro and Khrukho Swuro secured the third and fourth positions in the junior category.
