Dimapur, July 28 (EMN): In the wake of border disputes involving Assam and its neighbouring states resurfacing, Youth Congress presidents from four neighbouring states have condemned what they termed “ever increasing incidents of aggression and force used by the Assam government against its neighbouring states”.

In a joint statement, Youth Congress presidents of Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh claimed that aggression and use of police force have increased after Himanta Biswa Sarma became the chief minister of Assam.

It stated that civilians at the border are bearing the brunt of the aggression, claiming that Assam police had damaged their crops and harassed them. It added that these incidents had caused serious damage to the unity of the Northeast region.

It also stated that “the worsening of tensions shows the total failure of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA)”, a proof that it was not created for the development and unity of the region.

“We condemn the actions of Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, CM of Assam for his continuous efforts to inflame the situation and his repeated attempts to malign the neighboring states, when in fact it is under his Chief Ministership that situations have deteriorated and incidents of unprovoked aggression have spiked from the Assam administration,” read the statement.

The Youth Congress presidents also demanded the BJP Leadership to remove Sarma as the chief minister “so that we can have a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere in the North East again”.
