Mokokchung, Nov. 24 (EMN): Four youth associations namely Penli, Majakong, Lijaba Lijen and Artang in Mokokchung have resolved to block the road conditionally if the concerned authority does not respond positively within six days.
In an ultimatum submitted to the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung on November 24, the youth organisations have threatened block the road unconditionally if the concerned authority fails to repair the road leading to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) within six days.
The four youth associations stated they are compelled to serve the ultimatum before the authority as they are deeply pained by the apathetic attitude of the officers concerned.
It stated that on August 23, 2022, the four associations made a representation to the deputy commissioner and to all the concerned for repairing and maintenance of IMDH road starting from main Police Point to Sewak gate Junction, which is only about 2 km but was ignored by the authority.
They further claimed that on November 17, they made an appeal to the Chief Minister of Nagaland through DC Mokokchung, which never responded to the concerns.
“Therefore, we unanimously resolve that if the concerned authority does not respond positively within six days after the service of this ultimatum, we will block the said road starting from Main Police Point to Sewak Gate Junction unconditionally,” the four youth association warned.
It mentioned that Ao Senden and All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) have raised serious concerns pertaining to this issue on November 21 and November 22 respectively.
AWUMT has urged the concerned department/ government to immediately release the sanctioned amount and start repairing the road. The AWUMT also warned that the general public will not remain silent but will take appropriate action in due course of time, if the government fails to fulfill the basic and immediate needs.
The Ao Senden, in an open letter to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, also expressed concern that the people of Mokokchung are growing impatient and anxious while several organizations are already voicing out in deep concern.
Ao Senden stated that IMDH road is indeed in a really bad shape which needs immediate maintenance and requested the Chief Minister to intervene to ensure that the pledged amount is sanctioned/ released immediately to start the repairing and maintenance of IMDH road.
