DIMAPUR — In its endeavour to address mental health challenges through an innovative approach, the Young Minds NE Organisation, dedicated to youth empowerment and wellness, has introduced ‘Adventure therapy treks’ for mental health healing.’

An update from the organisation informed that the inaugural trek named ‘Healing Trek 0.1: Hiking and healing in the hills’ was organised on April 13 to Puliebadze in Kohima with the participation of 15 students from various colleges in the region.

Recognising the growing demand for adventure therapy as a means of mental health intervention, the organisation partnered with qualified psychologists to lead the participants through a transformative journey. The trek involved digital detoxification, talking therapy, group sharing, relaxation techniques, healing activities and experiential learning, all set against the backdrop of nature’s serenity, the organisation stated.

It stated that participants were encouraged to disconnect from their devices and immerse themselves in the natural environment, fostering introspection and self-discovery.

Led by sports and counseling psychologist, Vivoto Koso, and legal consultant of Young Minds NE Organisation, Jiwalo Apon, the hikers engaged in solitary reflections, one-on-one therapy sessions and group exercises aimed at promoting personal growth and resilience.

It stated that the participants engaged in sharing their personal burdens, followed by a collective reflection and mutual support. It added that the experience culminated in moments of perspective shift, emotional release and self-realisation, demonstrating the profound impact of nature-based therapy on mental well-being.

Report stated that feedback from participants underscored the effectiveness of having professional psychologists accompany them throughout the trek. They have expressed gratitude for the safe and supportive environment created during group sessions by enabling them to confront life challenges openly and constructively.

It mentioned that the adventure therapy, as observed by sports and counseling psychologist involved in the programme, offered a unique opportunity for individuals to address entrenched issues such as relationship dynamics, self-confidence and existential dilemmas. The transformative potential of adventure therapy lies in its ability to catalyse personal growth and empower individuals to overcome obstacles with newfound resilience.

Building on the success of Healing Trek 0.1, the Young Minds NE Organisation announced that the second adventure therapy hike would be conducted in June 2024. It informed that the upcoming trek would incorporate both group and one-on-one therapy sessions to further enhance its therapeutic impact.

It further stated that Young Minds NE Organisation would continue to lead the way in promoting mental health awareness and holistic well-being among Naga youth, leveraging the healing power of nature to inspire positive change.
