Yongshei Union Kohima celebrates Pangmo festival

KOHIMA — The Yongshei Union Kohima (YUK) celebrated Pangmo on Wednesday at Nphiecha, BSF Camp Road, D. Khel, Kohima.

Pangmo is an autumn festival observed by the Phom tribe according to the lunar calendar after the harvest in the paddy fields. The festival is traditionally celebrated for seven days, according to an update.

The date for Pangmo is usually fixed starting from the third day of the new moon. Pangmo also marks the end of summer and the onset of winter.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Bangtick Phom stressed the need for unity and maintaining good social well-being, while MLA Y Mankhao Konyak highlighted the importance of preserving and carrying forward the culture and traditions, ensuring they are passed on to the younger generation.

MLA Manpon Konyak, in his speech, called upon the people to focus on holistic development and adopt a positive attitude. He also urged everyone to put in collective efforts for the common good and a vibrant society.

The celebration was followed by the Pangmo feast.
