In the other matches played today, Yhome FC Kohima, 10th NAP (IR) XI and Country Boys FC registered their entry into second round of the 16th NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy held today at Khuochiezie Local Ground, Kohima.
In the first match, Yhome FC signaled their entry into the tournament with a convincing win against Phezhu Boys Club, Jotsoma by 4-0. The Yhome FC took control of the match from the first half of the game. Yhome FC striker Vilhoubeituo Yhome scored in the 13th minute, while Keduoneizo Zhale netted the second goal in the 32nd minute.
Yhome FC continued their dominance even in the second half as Vimelie Chase scored in the 41st minute. Scoring his second goal of the match and the tournament, Vilhoubeituo sealed the match in the 65th minute. In the second match, the 10th NAP (IR) XI trounced their rival ICFAI University, Nagaland, through tie-break (5-4). The match was equally poised till the stipulated time, however, the police team emerged as the luckier team in the spot-kick. Earlier in the match, both the teams got enough scoring chances, but could not capitalize it to their advantage.
In the fourth match, Billy Graham FC Kohima went down to Country Boys FC through tie-break. Going by the scoring opportunities, both the teams got ample of opportunities, but lacked the finishing touch.
The Country Boys FC scored first in the 37th minute through Kavisou, but within no time the Billy Graham FC leveled the match in the 44thminute through their striker J. Maram.
The Country Boys were fortunate to win the tie-break, if not their forwards would have regretted enough for extending the match till the tie-break. Their counter attacks were swifter as compared to their rivals, but they failed to find the net number of times.
Not far behind, the Billy Graham FC forwards will go home with regrets for failing to deliver some clear scoring chances. Though coming from behind to level the game, Billy Graham FC would have had their way past the first round, if not because of the opponent’s custodian who stood firm to withstand the aggression of the opponent’s forwards. Country Boys FC custodian saved his team from elimination with couple of fine saves. It was the custodian’s effort in saving the final spot kick of the tie-break which took his team to the next round. Country Boys FC will next meet Yhome FC on September 26.
