DIMAPUR — The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) on Thursday demanded a full investigation into the incident where an alleged urban local body (ULB) election winner of the NDPP was detained on polling day for attempting to disrupt the election process at Ward-2, Dimapur Municipal Council.

The individual, identified as Kiyasetuo Kengurusie, was elected unopposed as a member of the Chiephobozou Town Council, it said, citing media reports.

The WSYF expressed concern over the incident, stating that it serves as an eye-opener to the need for careful consideration when electing leaders.

It called for an inquiry and appropriate action against the individual to set a precedent and act as a deterrent that will usher in hope, salvaging the sanctity of the election process in Nagaland.

The WSYF also condemned the unfair practice that had taken place at polling station 4 under Ward 20 of the Dimapur Municipal Council, which compelled the decision for a repoll.

“Such practices have to be uprooted from our society, and collective effort should be made to raise the standard of our election process, which is one of the main catalysts towards the development of our state,” it said, while appealing for free and fair participation in the scheduled repoll.
