WSYF accuses police of inaction in theology student death case
DIMAPUR — The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has accused the police of failing to deliver justice in the case of Noghuvi K Sumi, a theology student, whose body was discovered in the Walford area of Dimapur on November 2.
In a press statement, the front said that the local police have failed to make any meaningful progress in the investigation of the tragic death of the student whose life was tragically cut short.
“Despite extensive pleas from the student communities, the CSOs, the family, and even state attention, the authorities have miserably failed to arrest those responsible for this horrific crime,” it read.
Claiming that the police have had ample time to conduct a thorough investigation, yet they have failed to make any breakthrough in the case, it said that this failure not only shows a complete lack of urgency but also a disturbing disregard for the safety and well-being of our society.
It maintained that it is incomprehensible that such a tragic death of a student has been met with silence and inaction and added that every day that goes by without progress is a day that adds to the family’s suffering and raises questions about the police administration’s priorities.
“The prolonged inaction is not only unacceptable but an outright betrayal of the trust we as youth place in those sworn to protect and serve. It reveals a disturbing lack of commitment to seeking justice for a victim who had a promising future ahead. The silence of the law enforcement agencies is deafening and alarming,” WSYF further said.
Stating that justice delayed is justice denied, the student body demanded that the police department prioritise the case and dedicate all the necessary resources available at their disposal to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
“As a youth organisation representing young voices, we urge the police administration to recognise the urgency of this situation. Our community cannot and will not rest until those responsible for this heinous crime are behind bars,” it concluded.
