DIMAPUR —The Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) has also expressed dismay over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a nationwide cleanliness drive on October 1 (Sunday).

The WSBAK in a press release said that cleanliness is an ideal that everyone must follow in everyday life, irrespective of religion. However, it should not be used as a medium to create differences within the community, it said.

The WSBAK also appealed to the Government of India to stop the “time and again communal attitude” and constant intentional target of the Christian faith and other minority communities.

It went on to say that the motive of cleanliness drive should be to educate the importance of cleanliness and not to display superiority by a community towards others.

The church body called upon all the churches under WSBAK to boycott the proposed social work on October 1, and to abstain from the drive as a symbol of resentment against the Government of India for repeated attempt to disrupt Christian faith and practices in the country.

The WSBAK further appealed to all frontal organisations and Christian leaders in general to stand together as Christians in defence of their faith.
