DIMAPUR — The Department of Women Resource Development (WRD) launched a new training programme on handloom (fly shuttle loom) at the Integrated Development-cum-Resource Centre (IDRC), Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, on Monday.
Altogether, 85 beneficiaries will undergo training, stated a press release issued by the department, mentioning that five beneficiaries from each of the 17 major tribes are being identified through the apex women’s tribal bodies, covering all the districts.
The department initiated the programme to promote and popularise both traditional and contemporary textile products and designs of various Naga tribes in the state under the Protection and Promotion of Textile Designs Project for 2024-25.
The training is being conducted in accordance with the existing guidelines under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, to enable beneficiaries to qualify for various benefits. Technical support and services are being provided by the Weavers Service Centre, Dimapur, Ministry of Textiles, as per requirements.
During the launch of the first batch training for beneficiaries on weaving (fly shuttle loom), V Kavito Zhimomi, additional director, WRD, delivered the introductory note. Short speeches were delivered by Zhothisa Dawhuo, commissioner and secretary, WRD, and Sarbeswar Das, additional director and head of office, Weavers Service Centre, Dimapur, Ministry of Textiles.
Thirty-seven women beneficiaries representing 11 tribes are being trained in weaving (fly shuttle loom).
