DIMAPUR — Along with the rest of the world, Kiphire commemorated World Red Cross Day on May 8 at the DC conference hall on the theme ‘Keeping humanity alive’, with EAC Kiphire Takatemjen Pongen as the special guest.

According to a DIPR report, in his speech, Takatemjen emphasised the significance of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, noting that they work both domestically and internationally to alleviate human suffering, collaborating with governments, other humanitarian agencies, and local communities to deliver on their objectives effectively and efficiently.

He highlighted that the theme for this year resonates well both on a personal and societal level. He stressed the significance of recalling that the Red Cross adheres to the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality and added that the Red Cross alleviates the lives of people without discrimination based on nationality, race, religion, or political beliefs.

Takatemjen also highlighted that one of the most important aspects of the Red Cross’s relevance in today’s world arises from its ability to adapt to evolving humanitarian needs, uphold its core principles, and make a positive difference in the lives of millions of people affected by crises and emergencies worldwide.

During the programme, certificates were presented to members, and new members were inducted. The event was attended by the honorary secretary, district RCS representatives, and students.
