DIMAPUR — A state-level workshop on “Promotion of Scientific Cattle Production in Nagaland” was held on Tuesday at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun in Medziphema.

The event was facilitated by the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle (CIRC), Meerut, and the ICAR-NRC on Mithun, in collaboration with Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. (DIMUL), according to a press release.

Around 140 participants attended the workshop, including farmers, students, scientists, and industry stakeholders.

The inaugural session was attended by Kazheto Kinimi, Advisor, Department of Animal Husbandry, along with Dr. A K Mohanty, Director, ICAR-CIRC Meerut; Dr. V K Vidyarthi, dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Dimapur; and Dr. Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun.

The workshop featured technical sessions in which Mohanty discussed the crucial role of cattle in ensuring food security. Dr. S K Verma covered optimal feeding practices tailored for Northeast India, while Dr. Suresh Kumar Dhoop Singh presented on advanced technologies for enhancing cattle reproduction. Dr. Plabita Goswami delivered an overview of common cattle diseases and their management.

Following the sessions, a farmer-scientist interaction addressed prevalent challenges and proposed effective solutions.

Meanwhile, Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute (VFATI) students received certificates from Kinimi, acknowledging their successful completion of training.

Furthermore, an MoU was established between ICAR-NRC on Mithun and Arunachal Pradesh Yak and Mithun Mission, aimed at enhancing Mithun farming practices. Input materials were also distributed on the occasion under the North Eastern Hill (NEH) fund of CIRC.
