DIMAPUR — The department of Agriculture organised a workshop under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for Northeast Region (MOVCD-NER) Phase 4 at Meluri village community hall under Phek district on June 28.
The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Meluri, Albert Ezung, who was the special guest, spoke on the importance and benefits of organic farming and encouraged the farmers of Meluri to indulge more into organic farming practices, stated an update from the department.
The event began with an invocation prayer said by Virhovi, member of board of directors of Meluri Farmer Producer Company (FPC), while the welcome address and vote of thanks of the first session was delivered by SDAO of Meluri, Mhonchumo Lotha.
The second session of the programme featured Ato Nyekha, project associate of The Green Caravan, as the resource person. He spoke on “Purpose of organic farming, its advantages, business opportunities, value chain development and market linkage.”
It was followed with a training session on the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), which outlined the institutional framework for the accreditation and certification of organic products.
The programme concluded with a question and answer session, allowing participants to address their queries and deepen their understanding of organic farming practices.
