Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): Citing chain reactions affection the whole family when a wife or mother is afflicted with sickness, the nodal officer of Dimapur district tobacco control cell, Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, urged the women to set some time aside for themselves and take care of their health.
Dr. Vizo stated this during the pre-celebration of International Women’s Day organised by the Nagaland region of National Domestic Workers’ Movement (NDWM), in collaboration with the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) at Assisi auditorium on Saturday.
“Often wives and mothers become so busy with their families and work, they neglect their own health. But when a mother’s health is affected it affects the whole family. So it is important that we keep some time for ourselves and to take care of our health,” Dr. Vizo said.
On the occasion, she also encouraged the women to demand for their rights, which according to her, is denied most of the time. Observing that many women depended on their husband’s earnings for everything, she remarked that women should take equal responsibility of looking after their family and children adding one should not be ashamed of doing anything to sustain one’s life.
Vizo stated that if a girl is provided education opportunities, it would come a long way in understanding her rights.
“Girls who receive education are less likely to marry early and more likely to lead healthy, normal productive lives. Also, they earn higher incomes and build better futures for themselves and their families,” she said.
She asserted that no woman should feel inferior because she does not have a job.
“Great responsibilities lie on you to teach your children and younger generation to bring them up in the fear of the Lord and God has given that special assignment only a woman can fulfill,” she added.
