Women Resource Development department issues clarification on financial assistance to destitute women scheme
Dimapur —The department of Women Resource Development (WRD) clarified on the claim of Meriema Women Society (MWS) that the transferred backlog pension grant for destitute women under Kohima district for 2019-20 had not been received till date.
It clarified that the pension grant was deposited to the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank and State Bank of India on June 25, 2020 and July 20, 2022 via Cheque No 087251, 087252 and 270884 respectively to be duly transferred to individual DBT accounts of all bonafide beneficiaries.
“Hence, the MWS may ask the concerned beneficiaries in question to either obtain their updated account statements or to contact their respective banks and if necessary, to re-activate their accounts if they have become dormant due to lying inactive for long periods. In such cases, inactive accounts should be reactivated at the earliest for enabling the concerned banks to accordingly transfer the due amounts,” the department informed.
In this regard, as per directions of the government, the direct beneficiary transfer (DBT) exercise was initiated for this scheme during 2018-19.
“However, due to the fact that many beneficiaries do not have easy access to banks to open accounts or because of the fact that most accounts of beneficiaries which are old have become dormant or inactive, the process has been taking time and is yet to be completed. This problem has been experienced in different parts of the state, particularly in the far flung and remote areas. And whereas the said pension grant has been disbursed in cash by the respective partner NGO of the department to those without bank accounts after due verification, beneficiaries already with linked bank accounts are reminded to keep their bank accounts active as required by banks to enable the concerned banks to transfer the amounts whenever due,” read the statement.
For further information on this regard, beneficiaries have been asked to visit the office on any working day with their account details for necessary clarification.
