DIMAPUR — As part of the National Wildlife Week, the Kiphire Wildlife Division, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, organised an airgun surrender programme at Nitoi village on October 2, on the theme ‘Wildlife conservation throughout coexistence.’

According to a DIPR report, Divisional Forest Officer of Kiphire, Rama Shankar Prasad, in his address, emphasised that peaceful coexistence with the nature -forest, wildlife and environment – is the only solution for a better future of human being.

The DFO was also of the view that both humans and wildlife need to coexist together with minimum human-wildlife conflict, which can be achieved through the effort of every concerned individual.

According to the DFO, Wildlife Week is a yearly event celebrated in the first week of October and the main purpose of the celebration is to generate awareness among masses to save wildlife, since everyone has the collective responsibility to protect wildlife and save environment.

Among others, the programme was attended by ADC Kiphire, Longdiba L Sangtam, Range Officer Kiphire, Aaron R Yimchunger and other Forest officials.

On the occasion, the Nitoi village youth surrendered a total of twenty airguns to the concerned authority.

The programme was part of the on-going ‘Wildlife Week 2024’ being observed by the Department of Environment Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of Nagaland.
