WHOOPI GOLDBERG is adamant she will never be tempted to make a third film in her popular Sister Act series following the death of several original castmembers.
No, there’s no chance that I will ever do another Sister Act. Too many of the nuns have passed like Mary Wicks (sic). How could you ever do another Sister Act without them?
The actress starred as a club singer on the run who takes shelter in a convent in the original 1992 comedy and its 1993 sequel Sister Act 2 Back in the Habit.
Fans of the franchise have long hoped Goldberg would agree to make a third film, but the 58 year old is convinced another sequel would not be right following the loss of a number of elderly actresses who played the singing nuns. When asked about the possibility of a Sister Act 3 during a chat with fans on Facebook.com, Goldberg replies, “No, there’s no chance that I will ever do another Sister Act. Too many of the nuns have passed like Mary Wicks (sic). How could you ever do another Sister Act without them?” Wickes, who played Sister Mary Lazarus in both films, died in 1995, aged 85, while other lost castmembers include Rose Parenti, who played Sister Alma, and a number of actresses who featured in the nuns’ choir.
The film has since become a hit stage show which has played on Broadway and in London’s West End.
