WhatsApp to introduce new features including ‘Communities’
Dimapur, April 14 (EMN): Meta-owned WhatsApp on Thursday announced that it will be introducing new features into the messaging platform including ‘Communities,’ reaction emojis and the ability for group administrators to delete messages to curb spread of misinformation.
Communities, according to the company, “will enable people to bring together separate groups under one umbrella.” It essentially means that WhatsApp users will now be able to bring together separate groups under one umbrella.

In a post on Twitter, WhatsApp wrote, “With Communities, you’ll be able to bring related groups together in a way that helps you organize meaningful connections easily and privately.”
In a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg said that ‘Communities’ was the “major evolution of WhatsApp” and that it would enable people to not only communicate with close friends and contacts, but also with all of the different communities in their life.
“We built WhatsApp Communities to make it much easier to organise all your group chats and find information. You’ll be able to bring different group together into one community — for example, in addition to individual groups for different classes, you might have one overall community for parents at a school with a central place for announcements and tools for admins.”
Along with Communities, WhatsApp is also rolling out new features to “help people share in new ways and reduce overload in larger chats.” The four different features coming to the messaging platform have been listed below.
- Reactions – Emoji reactions are coming to WhatsApp so people can quickly share their opinion without flooding chats with new messages.
- Admin Delete – Group admins will be able to remove errant or problematic messages from everyone’s chats.
- File Sharing – We’re increasing file sharing to support files up to 2 gigabytes so people can easily collaborate on projects.
- Larger Voice Calls – We’ll introduce one-tap voice calling for up to 32 people with all new design for those times when talking live is better than chatting.
