Our question is who this Metropolitan Oil & Gas Private Limited is. What is their credibility that the State Government could defend it so strongly? Is MOGPL an international multinational company? The unreliability and discredit of this Company has been time and again exposed in the public domain through the media but the Company has not clarified the charges publicly so far. Why is the government in such a hurry to launch the oil exploration before addressing the legitimate demand for review of the Modalities on NP&NG, Rules and regulation as well as without clearing the credentials of the MOGPL and also without trying to respond to the democratic stand of the students in the true spirit of democracy? And how could such a programme be launched in the absence of the nodel department such as Geology & Mining, Government of Nagaland. These gross discrepencies are proofs of vested interest and it is for all sensible tribal Hohos and organizations to judge whether such modus operandi will serve the interest of the Nagas. Under such prevelent circumstances, how such a Company with dubious credential be entrusted to explore the natural resources in the State.
The official statement of the Government at Changpang on 21st July ’14 that ONGC had ‘betrayed the trust and confidence reposed by the people and the State’ by extracting beyond the agreed amount to the tune of 1.3 million tons worth Rs. 329 crores but only Rs.33 crores, as royalty, was paid to Nagaland Government and out of which a meagre Rs. 63 lakh was given to the landowners is an eye opener. This matter is of grave concern but no previous governments had taken it seriously and therefore we urge the present government to pursue the matter in right earnest.
Kohima Lotha Hoho is reasonably and consciously clear that the way Nagaland Government is handling the Customary ownership rights of the people in the State in regard to its resources is not at all in the interest of the people.
