Mokokchung, April 27 (EMN): The 21st general conference of the Watsu Mungdang, the apex women organization of the Ao Naga tribe, has encouraged individuals to pursue change to be at pace with the rest of the world.
The programme commenced at the Mokokchung Town Hall yesterday, April 27, where more than 1, 000 Ao Naga women from several federating units of the organisation spread across the state converged for the two-day conference.
The event was conducted with the theme ‘Sustainable Change.’
Member of the Nagaland Public Service Commisison (NPSC), Chubala Wai, was the main speaker for the first day of the event on Thursday. In her address, she stated that the Naga people need to ‘change from homogenous to a specialist and professional society’ in order to ‘catch up with the rest of the world.’
Wai asserted that the Naga people had ‘slept for too long and had been depending on others for everything.’
‘Our forefathers’ self-sufficient culture through hard work has vanished from among the people because of our dependence on others,’ she explained.
In this regard, the NPSC member suggested that industrialization and better higher technical education might be the solution to changing the ‘dependence mindset.’ However, that change should start from the individual ‘by toiling ourselves to earn our two square meals a day,’ she said.
Further, the official asserted that cultivating professionalism also was not only about pursuing high degrees but pursuing skill development as well.
In this connection, Chubala Wai suggested research and innovation which she said would help individuals and the society to develop. She called upon the Watsu Mungdang to mobilize resources for scholars to research ‘in every aspect to make the society a professional and transparent society.’
