DIMAPUR — The four colony councils under 1 Dimapur I A/C, Ward 9, comprising Supply Colony, Nepali Basti, Fellowship Colony and Forest Colony have resolved against allowing non-registered voters and outsiders to enter any of the polling stations within the jurisdiction of the ward on the date of polling.

The decision was among several resolutions made by the ‘Joint Council Ward 9’ in relation to the upcoming urban local body (ULB) election scheduled for June 26.

The council stated in a press release that all contesting candidates, as well as residents of the ward, should strive for the peaceful conduct of the election. Furthermore, the council mentioned that it would take strict action against anyone who hosts or mobilises outsiders for electoral gain.

Furthermore, if ward residents/voters engage in any acts that disrupt the ward’s peace and harmony, the council will take action against such defaulters, and the joint council will impose a complete ban on the supply or sale of alcohol and other intoxicating substances within Ward 9.

It also encouraged everyone whose names are on the electoral roll to exercise their right to vote.

Ward 2 councils commend candidates

Meanwhile, the councils of Ward 2, including Zakiesato Colony, Public Ground Colony, and K Punyu Colony, have commended all intending candidates contesting in the Dimapur ULB elections for upholding the decorum of democracy.

According to a press release, the councils also urged all prospective candidates to maintain a peaceful environment on June 26 in order to conduct a free and fair election and encourage all electors to turn out in a positive manner to cast their valuable votes in support of their preferred candidate.

The councils appealed to all voters to cast their own votes in person, discouraging substitute and proxy voting. They also extended their best wishes to all intending candidates.
