Vizali Toso today emerged as the champion of Viswema Youth Organisation (VYO) 70th Wrestling Meet held at John Government Higher Secondary School ground, Viswema.
Vizali Toso defeated Kselvi Mekro in the final bout to lift the title while Kulto Toso and Tepudi Neikha were declared joint third place winners.
Along with the four top winners, other wrestlers selected to compete in the upcoming Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) Wrestling Meet scheduled for January 28 and 29 at Kohima Local Ground are Swedevil Vitsu, Kevilezo Rhetso, Viswedeto Koso, Krozhovi Tsukru, Vitsoto Vitsu and Kekhruvil Kikhi.
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, MLA Er Kropol Vitsu exhorted the wrestlers to be determined to achieve higher goals to bring laurels to the village, region, state and country.
Expressing concern that despite being such a major village, no wrestler has achieved the champion title in Nagaland Wrestling Meet, he maintained that not only the wrestlers but even the villagers should support the wrestlers.
He also urged the wrestlers to be disciplined and dedicated with regular practice and exercise in the true spirit of sportsmanship.SASA President Er Zale Neikha gracing the valedictory function as the guest of honour gave away the awards to the winners.
VYO president Eyosa Kikhi chaired the function while the tournament commenced with a prayer by Sr. Pastor of Viswema Baptist Church, Rev. Hosato Kiso. VYO Games & Sports secretary Tepukül Khanyo administered oath to the 27 wrestlers of the four khels as well as the judges and referees.
VYO treasurer Vitsoto Vitsu tendered the vote of thanks.
