KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 19

Minister for Roads & Bridges, Y Vikheho Swu today said the bye-pass road to reconnect the Secretariat Complex area and the new exit route from Kisama to NH-29 should be completed by November this year.
The minister, who inspected the two ongoing works on Saturday accompanied by parliamentary secretary Khriehu Liezietsu and some officials of Roads & Bridges, informed that the bye-pass road at Sanuorü, connecting the capital town with the state Secretariat is likely to be completed by mid-November. The bye-pass road will serve as an alternate arrangement till the time a permanent bridge is constructed over the Sanuorü river, he said. The minister said presently Rs. 1 crore was made available through the Urban Development Department (UDD) while another crore is being projected.
Swu also visited the ongoing works at the fresh road cutting area to connect the Secretariat area from NH-61 (near Indira Gandhi Stadium) being carried out by Lhisemia Khel under Kohima village. While expressing appreciation to all who are tirelessly working to provide alternate routes to the public, he assured to extend all possible help towards the project.
Meanwhile, on the new exit route from Kisama which will link the heritage village with the NH-29 through Phesama but without touching the landslide area, Swu is hopeful that this road would ease the traffic congestion to a great extent. The current works are being executed by Phesama villagers.
The minister said this year the works will include only the road cutting and soiling, for which, he said Rs. 2 crore has been earmarked while black-topping would be carried only after the soil becomes stable. Towards this, he said another couple of crores is projected. He informed that the Kisama exit route is likely to be completed by mid-October.
Mention may be made here that the Secretariat road has been cut-off completely since August 7 due to flooding of Sanuorü stream which runs through the road. On the other hand, National Highway-29 along Dimapur-Kohima-Mao (DKM) Sector was completely cut off from August 21 till September 10 due to a massive landslide near Phesama.
