In the words of Noam Shpancer, “Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.”

Hey there, fellow students!

In the hustle and bustle of our academic journey, have you ever taken a moment to check in with your mental well-being? Trust me, I get it. The assignments are piling up, exams are knocking on our doors, and the struggle to find the perfect balance between social life and studies is oh-so-real. But here is the deal – prioritizing our mental health is not just a luxury; it is a game-changer in our quest for success and fulfillment.

Mental Health

First things first, let us break the ice on this often overlooked topic – mental health.

In psychology, mental health is a person’s emotional and psychological well-being, encompassing their ability to handle stress, build positive relationships, work effectively, and make sound decisions. It goes beyond the absence of mental disorders and is crucial for overall functioning and realising one’s potential. In simpler terms, our mental well-being is not just avoiding stress; it is finding the resilience to tackle whatever life throws at us. It is about thriving, not just surviving.

Why mental health matters

In the whirlwind of classroom lectures, group projects, and all-nighters, our mental health tends to take a backseat. But picture this: a mindset that not only helps you ace your exams but also allows you to enjoy the journey. Sounds like a plan, right? Trust me, it is.

Strategies tailored for us, by us

1. Chill pill moments: Ever tried just taking a chill pill, figuratively speaking? Incorporate quick mindfulness exercises into your day. Pause, breathe, and let the stress melt away. It is like hitting the reset button for your mind. For example: just taking a moment to reflect on your beautiful life and thanking the God above for all his blessings, just being grateful or maybe just listening to songs that you enjoy the most or even as small as just going out in nature and taking a deep breath and just enjoying the beauty of it can make a huge difference.

2. Time juggling: We have all been there—multiple deadlines, overlapping schedules, and the perpetual fear of missing out. Time management is our secret weapon. Create schedules that suit your rhythm, prioritize tasks, and don’t forget to pencil in some ‘me’ time. Make a time table for yourself and in those ‘me’ time moments try not to use your phone, I understand because we do have this tendency to just scroll through our phones and check our social media it is easier than doing something else, I have done that too but trust me, doing something like taking a walk or maybe a small dance session or just spending time with family or friends having some small talk is definitely has been a game changer for me, try out for yourself; might as well works out for you too.

3. Team human: Feeling overwhelmed? Reach out! Connect with friends, family, or mentors. Share your highs and lows with someone whom you trust and can rely on. We are not in this alone, and opening up is not a sign of weakness. It is strength.

4. Move that body: Now, I am not saying you need to become a gym rat. But a bit of movement, whether it is a brisk walk, a dance session in your room, or yoga, can do wonders. Physical well-being and mental health are like two peas in a pod.

5. Passion projects: What is your escape? Hobbies and passions are not just side gigs; they are your secret weapon against burnout. Dive into activities that bring you joy and unleash that creativity.

6. From surviving to thriving: We are not just here to survive; we are here to thrive. Our journey through academia is not just about acing exams but also about discovering our passions, building resilience, and enjoying the ride. Mental health is not a buzzword; it is a lifeline.

So, fellow students, let us create a culture that embraces mental health, where seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. Prioritize mental well-being, support each other, and unleash the full potential that lies within. Here’s to a fulfilling, successful, and mentally thriving student life!
