Parliamentary Secretary Dr Imtiwapang Aier (fourth from left) with others after the unveiling of the golden jubilee monolith of Yisemyong Adhoc Town Committee on Saturday.

Mokokchung, October 8 : Parliamentary Secretary for Geology and Mining Dr Imtiwapang Aier felt that the question of unity is now “out of context” in Naga society and is becoming more inclined to “individualistic theory.”

The Parliamentary Secretary was referring to the Naga freedom struggle which was started with a common goal and objective “Free Nagaland” while addressing the 50th anniversary celebration of Yisemyong Adhoc Town Committee (1966-2016), some 15 kilometers away from the district headquarters of Mokokchung district, today.
He said today this political movement has been shattered and fragmented into “so many pieces” that “we cannot trust each other”. As a consequence, there is no peace and there is retardation of developmental activities, he added.

On clean election campaign, Dr Imtiwapang opined that until and unless the mentality of the grassroots people changes, it will be a futile exercise, whether NBCC or any other organisation launches any related programme.

In this regard, he said the general public has to give cooperation if they want the clean election to be effective.

Stating that there is a hue and cry that Nagaland needs a true and transparent leader for the future of the Nagas, the parliamentary secretary said pointing fingers at others without analysing ourselves will not bring any change.

“Before pointing fingers at others, let’s change ourselves first. Then only there can be a change. If we analyse very carefully, the very word ‘corruption’ starts from the grassroots level indirectly,” Dr Imtiwpang observed.

Dr Imtiwapang also stated that the Naga people are suffering from a communicable chronic disease called “Proxy Teachers” and the word “ism’. He said this very word (ism) has now dominated our Naga society and is haunting us in our day-to-day activities.

According to him, ‘ism’ should be wiped out and an appeal should be made to the teachers concerned to abolish proxy teachers in schools.

Pointing out that employment in the government sector in our state has come to a saturation point, he asserted that the only alternative is to opt for self-employment avenues. Therefore, he stressed, the young upcoming generation should be taught or implanted the idea to be self-employed so that our state would no more depend on others.

The main speaker, Masachuba Ozukum, SDO, PHED, Mokokchung spoke on the jubilee theme “Putusen Samanir” while short speeches were delivered by village council chairmen of Sungratsu and Mongsenyimti and others.
