SENAPATI, APRIL 30

A day after Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has lashed out at NSCN-IM and United Naga Council over issuing of alleged diktats to present Congress Autonomous District Council (ADC) members, the Naga body has reacted by asking Gaikhangam to come to reality rather than spreading false propaganda. UNC said it is an apex civil body formed by Naga tribes in Manipur and has no role to play in threatening or issuing of diktats to any individual or group.
UNC said it will go by the declaration of 2010 Naga People’s convention (NPC) to declare ADC election as ‘null and void’ and that it will stand by its decision to abstain from any form of political participation. The UNC stated that it is the people’s mandate that, those ‘unwanted ADC members’ will not be allowed to hold any political or social leadership. UNC is determined that it will not allow the present ADC members from contesting the upcoming 2015 ADC election.
On the issue of some Congress ADC members jumping to BJP and other parties due to alleged threat and pressures from UNC and NSCN-IM, the Naga body countered Gaikhangam that any decision by those Congress crafted ‘political traitors’ (present ADC member) to shift their camps has nothing do with UNC.
Instead, the present O.Ibobi led communal and divisive state government should consider its own mistakes and repressive policies against the Nagas and tribals of Manipur,” the UNC added.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had accused that NSCN (IM) and United Naga Council (UNC) were against all aspiring Congress candidates of the ensuing Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections and pledged that the State Government would counter any subversive attempt by the NSCN-IM and UNC to disrupt the election process.
Meanwhile, after effectively enforcing 48 hours total bandh in all Naga areas of Manipur, the United Naga Council (UNC) in a press statement has acknowledged the massive public support to successfully conclude as announced.
It stated that the democratic agitation passed off peacefully without any report of untoward incident and that UNC is overwhelmed by people’s supports for ‘genuine aspirations’.
The UNC then pledged to resort to stronger agitation in the near future demanding to fulfill the Naga aspiration.
