KOHIMA — Following a meeting on Friday, the Nagaland Cabinet has directed the State Election Commission to initiate the process for conducting municipal and urban local body (ULB) election.

Accordingly, the decision was conveyed to the State Election Commission by the Municipal Affairs Department (MAD) outlining the election schedule, with April 29 designated as the date for publishing the election notification

The nomination period will run from June 7 to the 11th, followed by scrutiny of nominations on June 13. Polling day is set for June 26, with vote counting and result declaration scheduled for June 29.

The schedule indicating the number of wards reserved for women in the 39 municipal/town councils where election will be held, as per Section 9 and Section 21 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, was also conveyed.

In addition to the election announcement, sources informed that the Cabinet took note of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO)’s call to abstain from the recent Lok Sabha election for the lone Parliamentary seat of Nagaland within its jurisdiction.
