Tzurangkong (Mkg), May 10 (EMN): Tzürangkong Students’ Conference (TKM) staged a peaceful procession demanding immediate action against the shortage of teachers in all the government schools at Tsürangkong range in Mokokchung district on Tuesday.
More than 500 students from nine government schools under Tsürangkong Range participated in the peaceful procession.
Speaking to journalists, TKM President Imlisunep asserted that despite repeated appeals to the Education department and the government regarding shortage of teachers faced by various government schools, it had not been acknowledged by the concerned department.
In this regard, he said that since they had ‘exhausted all means’, TKM resorted to peaceful protest on Tuesday to voice out the grievances faced by the student community.
“If the state government focuses on quality education then can this shortage of teachers be termed/considered as quality education?” he asked.
He further put on the record that “instead of deploying teachers, more transfers orders of teachers had been issued without replacement till date.”
Earlier, the peaceful march kicked started from Watiyim Village Gate to Moayimti junction (8 km), after which they went to the Tzurangkong Border Magistrate Atsungba Walling, besides the SDEO Mangkolemba, to submit a copy of the representation letter, addressing the Principal Director, department of School Education, Kohima.
The letter appealed to the concerned authority to intervene at the earliest and solve the shortage of teacher crises under various schools in Tzurangkong range.
In the letter, the student body appealed to the Principal Director, School Education, stating that there were numerous activities, training and programmes etc. conducted by the department, ‘but there is no significance, when the implementer have to struggle and cross their line to make up for the teacher shortage in schools to complete the basic task’.
It said that TKM had decided to take up diverse steps until this matter is looked into, besides, addressing immediate requirements.
TKM also pointed out that the range immediately required a total of 14 teachers which included Maths, Science, Hindi and other subject-related teachers.
Further, the TKM president stated that despite a laudable academic record and even producing a HSLC topper in 2015 GHS Tzurangkong, which caters to more than 20 villages and surrounding areas, is currently facing shortage of teachers, infrastructure assistance and numerous other difficulties.
“The students are robbed of several opportunities and are lacking behind the rest of the students in other areas of the state in many aspects,” it said.
There are 778 students enrolled under various government schools under Tzurangkong range as per TKM data.
