Two KULA members arrested; one injured in firing

Diphu, Aug. 3 (EMN): On receiving specific information by Bakalia Police Station on extortion demand given to several individuals in the name of newly formed extremist organisation as Karbi United Liberation Army (KULA), 2022, over phone and via serving demand letters, two individuals Thengtom Hanse@ Arak Ejang of Sar Hanse Gaon and Pranab Timung @Sedang Tungan village were arrested.
After technical analysis and engaging human sources, few suspected phone numbers were traced and the accused Thengtom Hanse under Diphu Police Station was located and picked up for interrogation, police said.
Pranab Timung of No. 2 Balijan under Bakalia Police Station was also arrested who is the general secretary of KULA.
Receiving information about the movement of Daniel Teron@ D.P Kronjang Chairman of KULA and other members and on the intervening nights of August 2 and the 3rd an operation was launched under Manja Police Station at Langvoku general area.
Firing and counter firing took place between the members of KULA and police personnel in which Daniel Teron, Chairman of KULA sustained bullet injuries and he was immediately shifted to DMCH, Diphu.
Items like one .22 Pistol along with ammunitions, one AK magazine along with ammunitions, one Khukri, demand letter pad in name of KULA 2022, seals chairman, KULA, D.P Kronjang, finance Sedang Tungan and finance Arak Ejang; camouflage dress; mobile phones and SIM cards used for placing Extortion demands and other incriminating documents were recovered.
The whole operation was carried out by Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), Nahid Karishma APS; O/c, Howraghat police station, Manjit Terang; O/c Manja police station, Ramen Bordoloi; O/c Bakulia police station, Nabajit Das and staff. All technical analysis was being done by Cyber Cell O/o SP Karbi Anglong and team, UBC Romesh Chetry.
A case at Bakalia police station was registered on August 1.
