Diphu, April 3 (EMN): The two-day 49th annual conference of Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), held at Amlong Apam, Kolonga in West Karbi Anglong concluded on Sunday.
The conference was held from April 2 to the 3rd on the theme ‘Strengthening of the 6th Schedule and implementation of Article 244(A) of the Indian Constitution’.
Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang attended the event as the chief guest of the conluding day and informed that Karbi customary court at Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Secretariat will be inaugurated and customary court at village level will also be set up.
The CEM also said that INR three crore budget allocation has been made for free coaching for UPSC and APSC examination. ‘Expert team will come from Delhi to conduct the coaching. Those wanting to crack the UPSC and APSC exams can take coaching at the expense of KAAC, he added.
Stating that KSA should not be divided or be in favour of any political party, he urged the students association to be bold enough to point out the right and wrong of any political party. The CEM also released the KSA souvenir ‘Klirdap.’
MP Horensing Bey said that the only way to strengthen the 6th Schedule is the implementation of Article 244(A) of the India Constitution for granting of autonomous state for the hill districts of Assam. He advised the KSA to take the initiative for development of human resources so that the younger generation of educated youths can compete in various competitive exams.
General secretary, Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), Longsing Tokbi urged the KSA that the educated youths should come forward in the development and promotion of Karbi language. He also clarified that there is no decision by KLA to adopt Devnagari script to include Karbi language in 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
It may be mentioned that Assam chief minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, during the 30th general conference of Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) at Donka Sarpo, said, “To include Karbi language in the 8th Schedule, Devanagari script should be adopted”.
“Romans script was taken as a form of writing in the Karbi language since 1978. The KLA has not taken any decision of accepting Devanagari script and is not going to accept it in the near future”, Tokbi said.
President, Karbi Cultural Society, Chandra Sing Kro said it is unfortunate the KSA has many groups/factions and does not want to be united. KCS has taken the initiative for unification of KSA. But instead of uniting them, more factions came up, Kro added.
President of KSA, Thangsing Timung, in his presidential speech, urged the KAAC authority to oppose the inclusion of Karbi villages inside Karbi Anglong living in the vicinity of Kaziranga National Park from the eco-sensitive zone.
He also reiterated that the KSA is opposed to the ‘give and take policy’, adopted by the Meghalaya and Assam government in resolving the inter-state. Timung also urged to revive strengthening of the 6th Schedule and renew the movement for implementation of 244(A) of the India Constitution.
More than 1500 delegates from various branches of KSA attended the conference, informed KSA general secretary, Bhudho Terang.
