DIMAPUR — Tuensang Police has claimed to have “solved” a murder case involving the mysterious death of a police personnel identified as Soyimkumba Ao.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the PRO of Tuensang Police informed that the case began with no initial clues and took the investigation team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Tuensang Police Station, UBSI Yongkongtoshi— with crucial assistance from ASI Putiyanger, In-Charge of Cyber Cell Tuensang—nearly three months of rigorous probe to crack the case.

“The case began on July 13, 2024, with the filing of a Missing Person Report by the wife of Soyimkumba Ao. Despite initial challenges and a lack of leads, a combined search operation involving Tuensang Police, Village Guards, and neighbouring villages was launched.

“On July 19, 2024, the body of the missing person was found in a partially decomposed state, hanging from a ceiling wood bar in a farm hut around 5 km from Tuensang town,” it narrated.

Following meticulous investigation, Tuensang Police “identified” five suspects: Lumkhalong (35), Litsachem (36), Thepise (42), Chempise (42), and Chaanglemba (42).

According to the police statement, they have “admitted” to abducting and assaulting the victim over a financial dispute, which ultimately led to his death.

“The investigation revealed that the accused (persons) attempted to stage the murder as a suicide case by means of leaving the death body hanging. Tuensang Police solved the case with perseverance and precision, delivering justice for the victim and his family.

“The Tuensang Police remains committed to ensure the safety and security of the community and appreciate the co-operation extended by the public in solving this challenging case. Further investigations are ongoing, and the police will continue to follow all legal procedures to ensure a fair trial for the accused,” it added.
