Tuensang farmers trained on SRI

Department of Agriculture, Tuensang division, has organized a one day farmers training on SRI/ Line transplanting under NFSM Rice in Palak area in Tuensang C Khel village on June 11.
In a keynote address Agriculture Officer, Longkhangba had highlighted on the present scenario of agriculture system in the district and how SRI/Line transplanting system should be adopted for increasing the productivity of rice.
The technical session on method of SRI/ Line transplanting was taken up by another Agriculture Officer, Wongto Chingmak, where he explained about the various steps to be followed from seed selection to crop harvesting in rice crop. Besides, on field demonstration on SRI system was also imparted to the farmers.Agriculture field assistant, Bumat, chaired the training programme while the vote of thanks was delivered by Tonching, AFA. The welcome speech was delivered by Yemchong council chairman while invocation was made by Among, GB.
Agriculture inputs were distributed to the beneficiaries after the training programme.
In a related programme, Department of Agriculture, Tuensang division, had organised a one-day farmers training for National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) beneficiaries in Makasem project area on June 6.
In a keynote address, District Agriculture Officer L Butang, appraised the participants that sustainability could be achieved only when farming system is adopted simultaneously with better conservation measures.
During the technical session topic on horticulture crop scenario – its scope and potentials, were highlighted by Chingmak, Agriculture Officer. Topic on production technology of cash crops and integrated farming system approach for better livelihood security was discussed by Longkhangba, Agriculture Officer, and Menungchetba, SMS, respectively.
Resource persons stressed on adoption of horticulture crops, cash crops integrating with livestock, system of farming for better economic development, and for sustaining natural resources.
Speaking on the topic ‘Concept and importance of sustainable agriculture,’ L Butang highlighted the farmers about the importance of sustainable farming for meeting the challenges of increasing food productivity, demand and supply and environment issues.
The training programme was chaired by Menunchetba, SMS. Altogether 40 farmers along with departmental officials attend the training programme.
