The Tripura High Court, in an interim order passed on Friday, has banned private practice of government doctors in nursing homes, health clinics and diagnostic centres. However, they are only allowed to practise at home. A division bench of chief justice Deepak Gupta and justice Subhashis Talapatra has said government doctors are not allowed to run personal chambers for more than three hours on a working day and six hour on a holiday.
Hearing a suo motu PIL registered in 2013, based on a media report about negligence of doctors in government hospitals, HC issued a complete ban on engagement of government doctors in nursing homes, clinics and diagnostic centres.
The HC has directed the state government to prepare a list of doctors who are willing to practise in chambers at their homes or in rented buildings following the HC specified norms.
“The court has asked the state to file an affidavit on compliance of the order by doctors before August 17. The state also made it clear that a section of doctors have been flouting service rules and practising for long hours every day. The government will investigate into the complaints against such doctors and take suitable action,” said public prosecutor Supriya Chakraborty.
