DIMAPUR — A two-day training on Navjaat Shishi Suraksha Karyakaram (NSSK) for staff nurses in basic new born resuscitation care, organised by the District Health Society, concluded at the CMO conference hall, Longleng on Friday.
A press release from the CMO office stated that Dr. Imtijungshi, DPO (RCH/UIP), in his address, briefed the participants about the purpose of conducting the training praogramme. He said the training will help them acquire essential knowledge and skills for providing optimal care to neonates and helping in improving health care status of newborns.
Dr. Sanuzolu, junior specialist (paediatrics) at District Hospital Longleng, the resource person of the training, imparted the basics about the NSSK programme. On the infant mortality rate where two third deaths are due to neonatal mortality, she underscored that to save the life of a neonatal, a minute after birth is most critical and important.
The key topics discussed during the two-day training were pre-test, preparedness of delivery room and birth equipment, infection prevention routine care for babies, steps for positive pressure ventilation, observational care in mother, monitoring breathing and temperature, breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, immunisation and post-test.
“The training module will help the participants in acquiring essential knowledge and skills and act as an enabling tool and to help the health care providers improve their clinical skills and practices and contribute to new born survival and health care,” the release added.
